HJC Africa: An Opportunity to Share Prosperity
in the New Economy
Imagine a global online campaign to raise money and awareness
about the issue of HIV/AIDS in Africa.
It exists through the assistance of
global media companies like AOL Time Warner.
Imagine expert communications/fundraising/Internet consultants
who help NGOs create powerful online campaigns to raise money,
advocate, and educate on a wide variety of issues , including
HIV/AIDS in Africa.
It exists through the work of niche consultancies like
HJC New Media, based in Toronto
Now imagine consultancies in Africa designing, programming,
and executing world wide online campaigns on the issue of
HIV/AIDS
It should exist and now it does!
The Opportunity realized
HJC has established an Africa-based Internet consultancy
that works with international NGOs, progressive businesses
and national/international governments on communications,
advocacy, fundraising and e-governance using new media in
the African context, and in the global marketplace.
We have partnered with long-time colleague, Ken Wiwa, and
his company, Suanu, at www.suanu.net.
His team in Port Harcourt has now been trained to become
HJC’s African team.
Why Africa?
Africa has languished in the backwaters
of the international communications and media mainstream
throughout the latter part of the 20th century. However,
with the rise of the Internet and new information and communications
technologies (ICTs), Africa is poised to make a leap to
the main stage. Nigeria in particular is an emerging regional
leader in terms of information technology – Nigerian
technical consultants are frequently found working throughout
Africa and other parts of the world. Nigeria is also a
leading economic and political centre for the region, and
has a large, highly educated professional class that is
moving quickly to adopt new media technologies.
HJC Africa, through our partnership
in Africa, provides a significant means to build up the
skills, capacities and professionalism of the nascent technology
services sector there. We’re doing it, with your
help if you work with us, by providing critical consulting,
training, and strategic planning support, and by helping
to establish a professional consulting practice in the
region on the uses of new media to support the development
of civil society and good governance.
How does HJC Africa work?
HJC Africa is a parallel consultancy to HJC based in Toronto,
Canada. HJC Africa operates as a full-service new media consultancy,
including research, strategic and production teams that together
offers a complete suite of new media services from website
design and production, to market research, fundraising campaign
design and advocacy/e-governance strategies.
HJC Africa is staffed by expert-trained
African consultants and work in coordination with the HJC’s
office in Canada to provide new media services to an international
marketplace. We are particularly focused on working with:
-
International NGOs (INGOs), such as
Care International, Amnesty International, Greenpeace,
World Wildlife Fund and others
-
International governance bodies: United Nations, World
Bank, etc. and National/Regional governments
-
Ethical multinational companies – such
as The Body Shop and other companies that make up associations
such as the Social Venture Network (SVN)
On top of giving our Nigerian team
an excellent, technology-based set of jobs, we also take
10% of the gross revenue of each project – and propel
that money into a local telecentre to offer Port Harcourt,
Nigeria residents with FREE internet access and discounted
computer training courses and discounted distance learning
courses from respected global universities.
Why join us in your next new media project by contracting
with HJC Africa?
HJC is committed to support its new
partner in Africa. HJC believes that the prosperity of
the new economy has to be shared. We’re committed to find new clients around
the globe and provide that work to HJC Africa. We’re
willing to share our unique knowledge, skill sets, experience
to make HJC Africa a world leading source of IT consulting
to the global NGO and progressive business community.
Now we’re looking for the commitment of the nonprofit
community to give our African team a chance to help your
organization – and help bridge the digital divide at
the same time.
